How books can be scary

All the words
Books for grown-ups have lots of words in them. Lots. Pages with walls of text, and for it all to make sense you have read all of them.

You don’t know this guy (risk)

You trudge through all of these words and what’s the guarantee that you won’t be bored and full of regret at the end? None. There is no such guarantee. You could go all that effort and still not feel fulfilled at the end.

What do you get for doing it?
You don’t get paid to read, you don’t meet girls by reading, basically, all you do is lose time. In fact, if you don’t get your books at the library, you pay them, to let you read.

It takes concentration

Concentration is hard when you are not used to it. There are so many distractions in the world around you, so many things that don’t take brain-power, like TV. You turn on the TV, you watch a few minutes of a show, you can tell if it’s boring or not. No effort necessary.

There are so many of them
You ever been in a library? The place is riddled with books. A million books each with a million words an more coming out every day. You will never be able to read a significant fraction of that, so why bother trying?
